Recognized Student Organizations
(RSO's)

Home
The Student Activities Office is also home to over thirty student
organizations recognized by the university. RSO's provide students with
opportunities for involvement in community service, professional development,
advocacy and social interaction. RSO's also allow students to develop
leadership skills and apply knowledge gained in the classroom.
The following describes each of the student organizations currently recognized
by Schreiner University , as well as additional opportunities to get involved
in and around campus:
Alpha Chi
Alpha Chi is a nationally recognized student honor society for juniors
and seniors. The organization strives to promote and recognize outstanding
student scholarship and character.
Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society recognizing students
who have achieved outstanding scholarship status during their freshman
year at the college and university level.
Ambassadors
Schreiner Ambassadors are students who demonstrate excellent leadership
skills, possess extensive knowledge of the institution, and assist with
developing and advancing a positive University image to prospective
students, benefactors and the community at large. The Admission Office,
through an application and personal interview process selects Schreiner
Ambassadors in the Spring Semester.
BACCHUS (Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University
Students)
BACCHUS focuses on educating the campus community on the health impact
of alcohol use and abuse.
Baptist Student Ministries
An organization open to all students interested in fellowship of the
Christian faith. Activities are supported and guided by Baptist theology.
Best Buddies
Best Buddies is a national collegiate organization committed to providing
friendship, fellowship and mentorship for adults in the community with
special needs.
Canterbury Association
Purpose is to teach and live out the covenant between God and His people
and to expand our boundaries to be inclusive of all God's creation.
This is an Episcopalian based program.
Celtic Cross
This is a diverse fellowship of Presbyterian Christians at Schreiner
who provide weekly programs for the college community.
Cheerleaders and Dance Team
The Dance Team and Cheerleaders are two separate entities and part of
university athletics program, which together make up the spirit teams
at Schreiner University . The goal is to spread Schreiner pride and
encourage community spirit during athletic events.
Cycling Club
The Cycling Club is an excellent opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts
and others interested in the sport of marathon cycling and establishing
a healthy lifestyle via cycling.

Chi Phi
Since 1824, the Chi Phi social fraternity has existed for promoting
brotherhood and individual growth through truth, honor, friendship,
personal integrity and academic excellence. Click

Drama Club
Promotes the appreciation of theatrical arts as an important facet of
education at Schreiner University .
Delta Phi Epsilon
Delta Phi Epsilon was formed for promoting good fellowship among sorority
women to help in acquiring knowledge, appreciation, discriminating judgment
and a true feeling of sisterly love, through the interaction of sympathetic
and friendly natures. The sorority women are dedicated to a lifetime
of sisterhood and the development of all members through a commitment

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
Purpose is to present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence,
the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and
Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the
church.
Honors Program
The Honors program values its members' unique histories and recognizes
each individual in the quest to interpret his/her place in this world.
The program intends to provide personalized learning experiences to
meet the needs and interests of academically aggressive college students
by offering: courses designed to engage students in a dynamic liberal
arts education; co-curricular opportunities to develop academically,
socially, and spiritually; recognition of such student "Schreiner
Honors Scholars�; and standards advantageous for graduate school admission.

Provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and community between
club members and the wider Schreiner community.

Kappa Mu Epsilon
Purpose shall be to develop an appreciation of the power and beauty
possessed by mathematics, due mainly to its demands for logical and
rigorous modes of thought and to provide a society for the recognition
of outstanding achievement in the study of mathematics in the undergraduate
level. It also is designed to disseminate the knowledge of mathematics
and to familiarize the members with the advances being made in mathematics.
Karate Club
Established to introduce Martial Arts, its philosophies, and an emphasis
on the traditional code of honor of the ancient martial artists -Respect,
Responsibility, Strength, and Honor. In addition, to promote health
and fitness while providing a sense of good will to the local community.
Methodist Student Ministries
Purpose is to offer a United Methodist fellowship at Schreiner, which
will provide opportunities for spiritual growth, foster ecumenical relations,
and enable students to discover their gifts/talents and to provide opportunities
to express them.
The Media Club
For students interested in broadcasting or print media who would like
to be involved in projects such as the Web broadcast, campus newspaper
or the literary magazine.
Non-traditional Student Association (NSA)
Purpose is to encourage nontraditional students in their academic endeavors,
campus activities, and civic/family responsibilities. This is accomplished
by providing a positive environment for study, discussion, and extracurricular
activities.

Peer Advisors
The mission of the Peer Advisors is to ensure the success of new students
at Schreiner University . Peer Advisors are upperclassmen who provide
information and support by helping students adjust to university life.
Students interested in becoming Peer Advisors are selected through an
application and interview process during the spring semester.
Pre-Law Society
The Pre-Law Society is an organization for students interested in the
legal profession.
Phi Delta Theta
The principals articulated by the Bond of Phi Delta Theta are friendship,
sound learning, and moral rectitude. As a social fraternity, Phi Delta
Theta believes recruitment, education, involvement, and responsibility
allow their members the opportunities to gain leadership skills, cooperation,
and confidence.

Resident Assistants (RAs)
Resident Assistants are undergraduate students who live and work in
all of the living areas on campus. Students in this leadership position
provide support, guidance, and encouragement of residential students.
In addition, RAs are knowledgeable of campus resources, provide activities
in the living areas, and enforce University policies.
Science Club
The Science Club strives to promote issues surrounding the field of
science. Science Club is a superb outlet for those interested in science
to obtain and apply knowledge gained through participation in state
and national organizations.
Schreiner Community Outreach Program (SCOP)
SCOP serves as a clearinghouse for volunteer activity to benefit the
people of the Kerrville and the Schreiner communities and to help students
gain social awareness.

Sigma Tau Delta
Recognizes and encourages scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service
among English majors.
Student
Activities Board (S.A.B.)
S.A.B. is dedicated to celebrating campus life outside the classroom.
Comedians, billiards tournaments, lectures, coffeehouses, bands, and
road trips are just a few of the events that S.A.B. sponsors for students
to enjoy. Students interested in planning events, creating publicity,
selecting campus entertainers, or just helping can become a part of
S.A.B. by contacting a current S.A.B. member or the Director of Student
Activities.
Young Catholic Adults
Purpose is to learn more about the Catholic faith, its teachings, doctrine,
and to promote fellowship among Catholic students.
Young Republicans
Purpose is to inform student members who desire knowledge and seek to
gain leadership skills in regard to their political preference. This
organization is meant for students to learn the process of government
from all angles.
Student Publications
Schreiner University sponsors the publication of a yearbook, a literary
magazine and a newspaper by students. Student publications can report
and record activities for the interest of students and the university;
they can serve as a forum for independent views; they can encourage
creative, progressive political, and critical thought; and they can
involve students in a wide range of activity.
Materials published by Schreiner University student publications will
be only those written by students, faculty, or staff members. Generally,
no outside materials will be included in student publications, with
the occasional exception of syndicated features reprinted with permission
of copyright holders.
Student publications should be an agent for change, not merely for criticism
and negativity. Therefore, these publications favor critical writing
that offers positive alternatives, but will not accept for publication
slanderous personal attacks.
A statement of policy will be included in student publications at least
annually.
Offices for all three publications listed below are located on the
first floor of Cailloux Campus Activity Center . Students holding leadership
positions for each publication will receive a Leadership Grant for their
commitment and dedication.
The Muse, the University's literary magazine, provides a showplace
for the artistic efforts--poems, essays, short stories, photography,
and artwork--of students, faculty, and staff members.
The Mountaineer is the campus student newspaper. The staff is chosen
in the fall, usually in the first two weeks of the fall term. |
